An Inclusive Environment Where You Can Thrive
Recovering from a brain injury can be a profoundly isolating experience, where withdrawing from the community often feels like the easiest path. The quiet spaces we create for ourselves can seem safe, but our team knows that connection and community are some of the keys to healing after an ABI.
We at Headway ABI Australia believe social interaction isn’t just a part of life—it’s a crucial element of continuing recovery. That’s why we’re passionate about inviting you to engage in fun and captivating activities designed to challenge your mind and encourage growth. We hand-select activities that challenge the mind so you can continue to enhance your mental cognition and development skills.

A Few of Our Social & Community Activities
At Headway ABI Australia, music is a cornerstone of our social and community support programs. Music therapy is one of the few activities that can activate both sides of the brain, with a range of studies supporting its ability to improve verbal memory recovery, general movement, mobility, mood, and overall cognitive functions.
Our participants have experienced remarkable transformations through the rhythms and melodies of our music therapy sessions, making it one of our favourite activities to enjoy with our NDIS participants.
We've seen great strides in our participants' ability to grow and develop through contributions to their local communities.
The team at Headway ABI Australia encourages everyone to pursue skills that will help them become active, independent community members. Our Support Coordinators are great at unpacking your interests before providing you with a range of fun and stimulating options that will allow you to pursue your hobbies with passion
Off the advice of our exceptional allied health professionals, we'll provide your family members with access to fun sports and recreational activities in a safe and controlled environment.
We always work to offer options that help our participants develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and daily living skills. Additionally, the Headway ABI Australia team ensures activities are modified to meet the needs of our community members. Above all, we'll always encourage you to try new things but promise never push you into something you're uncomfortable with.

Common FAQs
We offer a range of fun and exciting activities, all geared towards helping you grow and continue to develop your independence skills. Some of our activities include:
-Sports & Recreation: paddleboarding, surfing, fishing, bowling, and team sports.
-Creative: painting, singing, playing an instrument, mosaicing, and collaging.
-Personal Development: enrolling in a course or attending TAFE, volunteering, travel training, social skills groups.
We have our social group every Tuesday, which we run one day a week, where participants come together and participate in various activities. This is usually a different location each time (typically outdoors) within the North Gold Coast. We also have our “Do It Club” once per month, where we do a more significant day trip activity, which could include going to the races, one of the local theme parks, a show at a casino, and even the Outback Spectacular!
We ensure they’re geared towards your interests and achieving your long-term milestones.
What are you interested in? What do you love to do? And where do you want to be in one, five, or ten years? We take a lot of time to listen first, so we can ensure we can choose activities that fall within your plan budget and help you develop long-term.
No problem! We will always encourage you to try an activity at least once, but if it’s not something you enjoy, our expert Support Coordinators will look at your plan and help you find your passion.
