With the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS),the disability industry has progressed into a highly regulated profession. Opportunities are available for people who are either seeking to enter into a career in disability support,or who want to improve existing skills and knowledge to progress to higher and more responsible positions within the industry. Headway ABI Australia Ltd. subscribes to the principles of Equal Employment Opportunity. All applicants are to be judged on their skill and ability to do the job,not on their race,sex,marital status,religion or disability. Where all other factors are equal and the choice lies between an internal staff member (permanent and regular relieving) and an external applicant,the internal applicant may be given preference.
Once you have your application our Human Resource Manager will appoint a selection panel that will shortlist applicants after the application closing date.
If you are invited for interview,Human Resources will contact you by phone and advise you of the date time and venue. This will be confirmed in a follow up email with the names and positions of the each of the interviewing panel members. If you feel there is a conflict or potential conflict of interest with any panel members you are invited to discuss the conflict of interest with the Human Resources Manager or if the conflict involves the Human Resources Manager,then you can contact the General Manager. If it is deemed a conflict or potential conflict exists then that panel member will be replaced.
After all interviews,the panel will discuss each applicant and rate them on the merit principles and select the applicant based on the majority consensus of the panel members (this includes any internal applications).
If you are unsuccessful you will be contacted by phone and you may request feedback on your interview.
The preferred applicant will be advised by phone and permission sought to begin the pre- screening process. This involves contacting mentioned referees. NOTE:at least one referee needs to be a person who has previously supervised you.
After successful pre-screening you will be verbally offered the position with a negotiated start date. This will be followed up with a written contract of employment and necessary forms and information in the form of a “new starters pack”
On your commencement you will undergo a comprehensive induction process and if required,commence “buddy shifts”.
The Blue card is specifically for working with children (18 years and younger) and is administered by the Queensland Government’s Blue Card Services. Since the 31 st of August 2020,if you do not physically have possession of the Blue card it is “No Card No Start” even if you have sent an application for processing.
The yellow card (or yellow card positive exemption) is administered by the Queensland Government’s Department of Communities,Disability Services and Seniors;
It Is used by a disability services funded non-government service provider or a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) non-government service provider on behalf of a person 4 engaged or seeking to be engaged by the service provider under the Disability Services Act 2006 Section 52.
The Yellow Card is compulsory for staff or people working with people with disabilities. However,if you do not physical have possession of the yellow card you can commence work under strict supervision while your application is being processed.
At Headway ABI Australia we encourage staff and prospective staff to apply for both the blue card with yellow card positive exemption. While we currently do not work with clients under the age of 18,we may do in the not too distant future.
Human Resources will assist you in preparing and application for your cards. The cost of the cards is approximately $93.00 for both. This is at your expense.
This module is an interactive online course mandatory course that explains the obligations of workers under the NDIS Code of Conduct – from the perspective of NDIS participants. It was developed in consultation with sector,including NDIS providers and people with a disability.
All registered NDIS providers under the NDIS Commission should include the module within their induction process for workers,and encourage existing workers to undertake the module over time,as part of their ongoing learning and to support compliance with the NDIS Code of Conduct It takes approximately 90 minutes to complete the four modules. Once completed the workers will receive a certificate of completion.
During the module,workers are encouraged to consider and respond to different scenarios in the context of supporting a person with disability. On completion of the module,workers will understand the role of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission and their responsibilities under the Code of Conduct including roles and:human rights,respect and risk.
